MEDICAL DIRECTOR


Dr. Barbara Wise is a distinguished Board-Certified Psychiatrist with nearly two decades of experience including a focus on geriatric psychiatry for over eleven years. Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from The College of William and Mary in Virginia, a Master of Science in Physiology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and a Doctor of Medicine from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Dr. Wise completed her internship and residency at the University of Texas Southwestern at Dallas, where she honed her expertise in geriatric psychiatry.

Dr. Wise serves as the Medical Director at Cornerstone Behavioral Health, a role she took on from the inception of the practice. Her extensive career in psychiatry spans a variety of settings, including community mental health, military mental health services, hospital-based psychiatry, psychiatric emergency services, and long-term care facilities. She is certified in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and trained in Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT).

Dr. Wise’s contributions to psychiatry extend beyond her clinical work. She has provided or overseen psychiatric services across multiple states, including Tennessee, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming. Her dedication to education is evident in her roles as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Wise is passionate about teaching and actively contributes to the advancement of psychiatric services through her involvement with psychiatry residents at Cape Fear Valley Health System in Fayetteville, NC, where she is currently employed. Here, she offers outpatient supervision to residents, delivers psychiatric services to several long-term care facilities, and conducts ECT treatments.
